Malmesbury Carnival

Malmesbury has a big Carnival every year......the town has loads of different events throughout the entire month of August (We went to a wine quiz based on 'Call my bluff' which was really good fun!!) culminating in a big procession through the town. The procession was on Saturday evening so Chris and I headed out, along with most of the population of Malmesbury (who knew so many people actually lived here!!), to watch the parade.

I have to say that I was most impressed with the thought that had gone into some of the floats....there are some very talented people live here!! Have a look at these....

We had clowns

An elephant

Strickly John Seargent

Aliens

and even The Village People doing YMCA

I like living here!!

  1. I missed the carnival this year as I was shooting a wedding in Oxford but my wife said it was great. My 15mth daughter loved it all. In fact, the photos you have in this post look like they were taken right outside our house opposite the 3 cups. It's a shame we don't get a day off work to celebrate the local carnival like they do in Spain as the Malmesbury one lasts a whole Month!

  2. Kevin - You live opposite the three cups?? I probably walk past your house at least twice a day!!! (we live just off The Horsefair)

The carnival procession was wonderful....it's been years since I've been to something like that!! (We would probably have gone along to the dance after it but neither of us have been feeling brilliant and after standing watching the procession we were both chilled to the bone!!)

  4. I love the John Sergant, don't some people come up with great ideas? Bakewell has a brilliant carnival each July and they have the most fantastic floats. Super fun.

  7. I love Malmsbury - went there 11 years ago to see a client and to join in their Christmas party. We stayed in a B&B on the high street. a place that was ancient but fantastic to stay in. You live in a very pretty part of the country. Lucky you!

  10. MOB - It's a beautiful part of the world isn't it!! (I've even discovered that I like it even when it's raining!!). I particularly like the fact that it feels like a Village but is actually a town so has a good range of restaurants, pubs and shops :-)

Debs - Hehehehe, it really gave me the giggles!!

LadyFi - There was such a lovely atmosphere and it was something that everyone could join in with which I thought was brilliant!! (I think the clown was based on the latest Batman movie!!)

  13. I love Carnivals! There used to be one here which was quite spectacular but as far as I know it hasn't happened for a few years, no idea why.

  14. Wow Carol, it sounds like you couldn't have picked a better town if you had tried. How many days a week will you be staying with your London friend once term starts?

  15. Helen - It is!! Everyone we've met have really made us feel welcome which is just lovely!!

Anon - I loved his YMCA!! I've got the one on here and another one where you can see him quite clearly but the other figures are a bit blurred. If you would like me to e-mail them to you can contact me at carol_burns@hotmail.co.uk.

DJ - Awww, it's a shame that they have stopped it!! It's such a great way to bring people together....and fab to watch!!

French Fancy - We are so lucky!! I think it would have been harder to settle here if we hadn't been so lucky with where we chose to live!!

It will only be two days a week...one full day and one evening!! I got a call from the Uni yesterday to say that I should have my official offer within the next couple of days so when I get that I'll know my start date!! Aaarrrggg!!!

  16. How exciting - I'm a teensy bit jealous - change that to a lot! How great to be a student in body as well as in mind. I know you are going to do fantastically well

  17. French Fancy - To be honest, when I think about it...I actually feel a bit sick!! I just have a horrible feeling that I'm going to be with people that have done amazing things and I'm going to feel like a bit of a fraud!! Chris assures me that everyone feels like that...my cunning plan is just not to think about it!!
