It's based on a beautiful house here in Malmesbury which
is probably well over 100 years old!! What do you think?

I love the colours and playful simplicity and clean lines. A very joyful picture!
Ladyfi - Thank you very much *grins*. The colours are actually a lot brighter in real life...I couldn't get them to come out properly in the photograph!!

It's completely gorgeous! I love it!!!
That is so pretty - it would make a good mosaic as well
Wow, don't you have a lot of butterflies in Malmesbury? ;-) It's a very cheerful painting, kind of a technicolour dreamhouse.
Mmm... I don't think so, and I think you know it too.
Your other paintings were great, this one is a bit twee, - it reminds of a childrens book illustration, but even then it is not quite right.
I think the problem is the colours and wonder how it might look if it was painted again in two colours (sage and ochre) with perhaps 3 brush strokes of highlight in a third. I also wonder if you did it as line drawing, which would be much better.
Watercolour is very VERY hard, but at its best it is a fluid and 'lucky' medium that has a life of its own. Take a look at Helen Oxenbury's children's books, especially Farmer Duck, which might give you some ideas without being wacky.
Sorry this isn't the most super supportive blog comment, but you know I mean well... and painting is serious stuff.

I think it is brilliant and I have the advantage of knowing Malmesbury well - you have captured the "feeling" well.
I wish I could see the colours in 'real life'. Love the butterflies.
OMG! Now, you KNOW me so you'll know how much I LOVE that painting with all those bright colours. Wowsers... xo
A very cute picture, Carol. Love the butterflies x
Absolute Vanilla - I was trying for something cheery :-).
French Fancy - Ooohhh it would look nice as a mosaic...I would never have thought of that in a million years!!
Queenie - I seem to always end up with either butterflies or washing lines...I have no idea why...they just always appear!!
Mark - Awww, don't feel bad...I like your honesty!! Your right, it's not quite right and it did start as a line drawing :-).
I adore the links you e-mailed me (wish I could paint like that too) but I was trying to do something very specific. I've found a card company that is interested in my work but they don't do black and white as they say it's too arty farty. I had a look at what they do sell and was trying for something that I thought would fit into their range.
I've got a commission to work on so I'm going to put it to one side and then come back to it afresh!!
I'm not offended in the slightest :-)
Lindsay - That is a lovely thing to say...thank you very much my dear :-)
Helen - As I said to Queenie, butterflies or washing lines (sometimes both) always seem to make an appearance!!
DJ - Hehehehe, I had a sneaky suspicion that you you might like it!!

Amanda - You managed to sneak in there!!

It's lovely...sort of smartie like, however, I hope you don't mind me saying, but I prefer your work in black and white!

Julie - No, I don't mind you saying at all!! I like my stuff best in black and white too!!

Well done - I love this!!!
Love the butterflies, the idea of them floating from the house is beautiful.
How did you manage to keep all the colours in the boxes.
Milla - I had so much fun making it and was thrilled that I managed to make it so fast!! I've got a load of wool left over which I'm going to make a small version for our window seat...*whispers* for the cats!!
The blogging wedding was just lovely and it was great to meet so many bloggers :-)
Claire - People have been telling me for ages to use more colour so I kinda went for it!!

You have some patience Carol, think I will pass on the painting of wee cubes, knitting a jumper was bad enough.
