My Latest Painting - 'A Dappled Life'

I've been working on a commission for the lovely DJ and she's just given me permission to post some pictures of it. I used gold leaf on the background which made photographing it very difficult....I hope I've managed to capture the colour and the feel of the painting.

It is called 'A Dappled Life'
(Click on the image to enlarge it)

(If you want to know more about why it's called 'A Dappled Life' I believe that DJ will be blogging about it tomorrow)

A friend of mine has suggested that I use the same technique and do a series of four paintings representing the four seasons. I think I might just have a go at doing that!!

  7. Lady Fi - It was a bit of an experiment so I was relieved when it turned out the way it did!!

Helen - Thank you hon. DJ just told me to paint something for her but we never discussed what she wanted....it's turned out to be perfect for her which freaked us both out slightly!!

Amanda - Thank you (am blushing)

BT - As I said to Lady Fi, it was a bit of an experiment...the first one ended up in the bin!!

SueG - I can't wait to read what she's written about it either!!

I'm glad you like it :-D

  10. Great picture - has more than a touch of Klimt about it; I love Klimt!

  15. How fiddly it is to use gold leaf - I've seen someone in a gallery doing it, the stuff fluttered everywhere. You are so talented, Carol.

  18. Lovely painting Carol - I like the contrast between the dark painted tree, gold leaf and intricacy of the pattern on the collaged fabric. Well done, Lesley x

  21. Absolute Vanilla - You managed to sneak in there!!

I'm so glad you like it hon :-D

Debs - I think it's a great idea too...I've been giving it a bit of thought and was thinking blue with silver leaf for winter!!

MOB - Awww, everyone is being so lovely about it!! I think I'm finally finding my painting style...

Mark - I love Klimt too. Chris and I went to Venice for our honeymoon and I could really see where he got his inspiration from!!

I'm thrilled you like it :-D.

It's just slightly bigger than an A4 piece of paper (as I said it was an experiment so didn't want to go too large) but I am going to work on some larger canvasses for the four seasons. I have lots of ideas bubbling away...

Tomato - I thought you might like it :-)

Pat - Thank you hon. I am pleased with the way it turned out!

KatW - Welcome and thank you so much for such a lovely comment....that is a lovely thing to say!!

Cheshire Wife - Everyone is being so nice that I'm blushing away here...could probably fry eggs on my cheeks at the moment!!

    Queenie - I am planning....

French Fancy - OMG it goes everywhere!! I ended up having to use tweezers to put it on the painting otherwise it just sticks to everything and disintegrates because it's so fine. (I ended up with it in my hair, on the floor and on the cat!!)

Lane - I do love the effect of the gold leaf...it changes so much in different light that the painting never looks exactly the same twice.

Molly Potter - Welcome and thank you for your lovely comment :-)

Sea Blue Sky - Hehehe, that's not collaged fabric (although it does look like it)...I painted that using acrylic paints and a magnifying glass!! (Took bloomin ages!!)

LilyS - Ooohhh, that would be exciting!! I would love to do one for you :-)

Suburbia - DJ said the same thing :-)

You are very welcome hon, I'm just sorry that you're having to go through what you are!!

  23. Thought I'd blog instead of phoning, cos I didn't want to take up what precious time you have with Chris mid-week. I have to say I LOVE your picture - as you knew I would! You know me and trees - you've inherited it and made it your own! Fab! It was well worth the trouble with the gold leaf. Looking forward to seeing the Four Seasons. What are you going to do in your spare time???

    Love, Mum xx

Mum - LOL, I have no idea what I'll do in my spare time....and I've got so much of it to fill :-). Seriously, i'm glad you like it...I have to be honest and say I'm rather pleased with how it turned out!!

Claire - Funnily enough, I won't complain if you ask me to do another one *Grins*.
